Ultrasound

The ultrasound mini-fellowship is a distinctive tract in which residents can develop and hone their skills and expertise through a more focused ultrasound experience during residency. Longitudinally, throughout the mini-fellowship, participating residents will review and discuss current ultrasound literature with faculty and co-residents during the Ultrasound Journal Club and provide lectures for medical students and residents.

The fellowship begins with improving resident knowledge in basic ultrasound core applications through focused scanning sessions with ultrasound faculty in order to achieve an advanced foundation in image acquisition and interpretation. As training and skill improve, second year residents with learn more advanced applications like transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) with an opportunity to perform/observe transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) under the supervision of Cardiology in the echo lab.

During their second and third years, residents will learn how to develop an ultrasound quality assurance process, and design an ultrasound-focused, quality-improvement project with the ultimate goal of publication. and perform. Residents in the program will meet with the Director of the mini-fellowship on a quarterly basis to review performance and provide mentorship.
