William Apterbach, MD
Vice Chair
Dr. William Apterbach is the Vice-Chairperson of the Department of Emergency Medicine at South Shore University Hospital (SSUH) with a focus on operations and academics.
Prior to starting at SSUH, Dr. Apterbach served as the Chairperson and Associate Chairperson at LIJ Valley Stream. He is a graduate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed both his residency and administrative fellowship at New York Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ). Dr. Apterbach is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies. He has served as a medical director for multiple EMS agencies and helped supervise quality and operations of a 30-bed observation unit at NYPQ.
Dr. Apterbach is passionate about education and is involved as a supervisor, instructor, or preceptor in multiple areas of medical/healthcare education including teaching attending physicians, residents, medical students, nurses, PA and NP students, and EMS. He has published numerous peer-reviewed abstracts and is a member of the Northwell Health Emergency Medicine Research Consortium. His research interests include operations, healthcare disparities, and overall quality.
