Lauren Cooke-Sporing DO

Simulation Director

Dr. Cooke is the Director of Emergency Medicine Simulation at South Shore University Hospital and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.  She graduated magna cum laude from Binghamton University with a degree in Integrative Neuroscience. She earned her medical degree at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, during which she was awarded an academic scholarship for her participation in the Academic Medicine Scholars Program. This competitive program allows selected medical students to spend an additional year in school developing research and teaching skills, which fostered Dr. Cooke’s interest in medical education.

Dr. Cooke completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Zucker School of Medicine at Northwell- North Shore/LIJ. Her experiences at Northwell’s state-of-the-art simulation center, the Center for Learning and Innovation, inspired her to pursue a fellowship in Health Professions Simulation at Northwell following graduation. As part of her fellowship training, she worked closely with medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students, as well as emergency medicine residents at North Shore, LIJ, and South Shore University hospital to develop learning opportunities through simulation. During fellowship, she was given the opportunity to participate in a 5-day, Comprehensive Simulation Instructor Course at the Center for Medical Simulation at Harvard University. She is highly trained in using multiple simulation modalities, as well as debriefing techniques, to allow learners to experience high-stress, high-morbidity scenarios without causing harm to patients and while maintaining psychological safety for learners. She is excited to bring her passion for simulation to the emergency medicine residency program at South Shore University Hospital.

Dr. Cooke is a native Long Islander and a new mom. In her free time, she loves to exercise (Zumba for the win), play on her Nintendo Switch, travel, and spend time with her friends and family.
