Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the exploitation of people for profit and a form of modern-day slavery.

EDs are often one of the most frequent places of contact for victims of human trafficking, which is why it is so important for us at SSUH ED to be able to quickly identify and help those who may present to our ED.

The mission of the Northwell human trafficking task force is to provide a medical safe haven for survivors and those at risk of human trafficking, and to create such an environment at the local, national, and global level to educate, promote advocacy, respond, and train.

Every patient that arrives to the ED of SSUH is screened for signs of abuse and every member of our team has been trained to identify potential victims of human trafficking and provide Trauma-Informed Care to these individuals.
