Southshore University Hospital is one of 4 sites across Northwell health that will be launching an NIH-funded Firearm Injury and Mortality Prevention Initiative. Patients in the emergency department will be screened for access to firearms and violence risk, and a variety of interventions and referrals can be made to encourage safe behaviors and usage of firearms and reduce the risk of firearm violence.
