Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to Bay Shore EM - home to the Emergency Medicine Residency at Northwell South Shore University Hospital! As we celebrate our seventh year, we couldn’t be prouder of how far our program has come since its early days. At South Shore, we are dedicated to developing exceptional emergency physicians who are prepared to care for any patient, in any setting.
We are a three-year, ACGME-accredited program with six residents per class. Our hospital serves as a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and STEMI Center with a 24-hour cardiac catheterization lab, as well as the primary receiving hospital for Northwell’s Eastern Region. This means our residents are on the front lines, managing some of the sickest and most complex patients on Long Island.
Our graduates represent us proudly across the country in both community and academic settings, with many pursuing additional training through fellowships in areas such as ultrasound, wilderness medicine, and resuscitation, to name a few.
Our dynamic, fellowship-trained faculty are deeply committed to resident education and provide personalized, one-on-one mentorship to help each trainee achieve their professional goals—whether in academic medicine, community practice, or fellowship training.
Our diverse patient population offers exposure to a broad spectrum of pathology and provides meaningful opportunities to make a lasting impact on the lives of patients and families.
As part of Northwell Health, New York’s largest healthcare system, our residents benefit from unparalleled resources—including state-of-the-art simulation and cadaver labs, a competitive salary and benefits package, and extensive networking opportunities across the system. Northwell provides the ideal environment to learn, grow, and thrive as an emergency medicine physician.
Our leadership team is excited to welcome this year’s applicants and to share what makes Bay Shore EM such a special place to train. To accommodate everyone, we will be offering both in-person and virtual interviews this season. Please know that your chosen interview format will not affect your position on our rank list.
We invite you to explore our website and follow us on Instagram (@bayshoreemdoc) to get a glimpse of what your three years with us could look like—and to meet the incredible residents who make our program what it is. We look forward to getting to know you this interview season.
